Equipment Rules: Shopping Advice

As you scan the internet looking for the best medical equipment, food service equipment, or other types of equipment, you will inevitably find that “perfect” website selling what you need. While we would hope you choose Equipment Galaxy, we do understand that you may have other plans. But we will still keep you safe!

By understanding how to keep yourself safe and secure when shopping online, you will discover fewer unexpected surprises such as a long delivery time, unexpected shipping or handling costs, no return policies, and even the wrong piece of equipment. Yes, we will keep you safe even if you choose someone else.

Watch those shopping and handling costs. Many websites will not have upfront charges when they sell you a piece of equipment. This is not always going to be a bad sign, but if the company is not upfront with the charges, what else are they hiding?

WARNING: Never give your credit card or financial information without first knowing the TOTAL cost!

Another key to shopping online is safety. You will want to ensure your information is encrypted. How can you ensure your information is encrypted? The address should start with “https” if it is encrypted instead of the regular “http” for unencrypted websites. This will ensure your information is not as easily stolen by unscrupulous individuals.

The equipment you are interested in purchasing will be the main concern. Be sure to read the description thoroughly. Is it the right dimensions? The right finish? The right price? Everything should be available….

Shopping online can be a very beneficial and enjoyable experience, but just like in the brick and mortar world, you will want to ensure you are protected. The internet makes shopping for all of your supplies and equipment as easy as pushing a button, but just a few steps will ensure you are secure.

What Shelving is Right For You?

When it comes to safety, every little thing makes a huge difference. Whether it is the types of screws you use to attach shelving or the type of protective padding on the table legs, you will discover that the safety you need is easier than you could have ever imagined.

Shelving is a large category with a wide array of options. There are shelves that are freestanding and there are shelving units that attach to another structure such as a wall or other supportive features in a business or home. Regardless of the type of shelving you need or want, you will find knowing your shelving is a large step in the security you need around you.

Regardless of the size of the shelving, there are safety features which should be followed. Here are a few examples:

Insure the proper support is going to hold the weight you need it to hold. Generally this is found through a combination of the weight allowed and the weight recommended for both the shelving and the support.

Properly distribute the weight. Heavy items on the bottom and light items on the top will insure the safety of those people using the shelving. This will also tend to protect the items and the shelving itself.

Maintain the shelving appropriately. This often means examining the shelving for dust, debris, and stability. Debris and dust can cause fire hazards which can be avoided simply be cleansing the shelving regularly.

Replace the shelving when the need arises. Everything has a “shelf” life, even shelving. If those industrial shelves are looking out of sort, replacing those shelves will be a guaranteed way to insure safety and security.

When it comes to the shelving for our lives, you will find a little foresight and maintenance will go a long way in the safety and security.

The Cleanroom Defined

There are many types of cleanrooms. Whether for scientific research, manufacturing, or more, a cleanroom controls the contamination level of possible pollutants. These contaminants can be airborne microbes, dust, chemical vapors, or even aerosol particles. With so many contaminants, cleanrooms are necessary to insure that research, electronics, and even patients have a minimal level of contaminants per cubic meter.

Contaminants within a cleanroom are measured by particles per cubic meter and are measured by particle size. HEPA or ULPA filters are commonly used to control those internal contaminants. HEPA is defined as high efficiency particulate air, and ULPA is defined as ultra low penetration air.

A cleanroom can literally be of any size from an enormous complex to a small closet sized room. The need will definitely decide the size. An obvious downfall of a cleanroom is the expense associated with a cleanroom, and a larger cleanroom will definitely cost considerably more. The company budget is going to often be a leading factor in the size of the contamination-free zone.

The type of cleanroom will also have a direct affect on the type of equipment necessary for the space. For instance, you will have a variety of cleanroom suits for the type of protection you will need for the conditions. Usually, these suits will need to be worn and removed in a safe room before entering or after leaving the controlled environment.

There are many levels of rooms as well. For instance, a low-level cleanroom may only require special shoes be worn. This will save considerable money, but it will also be easier to keep up with the standards necessary in maintaining that level of cleanliness and sanitation.

Whatever your budget and whatever your need, you will find Equipment Galaxy will have something to meet your needs.

Defining Material Handling Equipment

When you hear the term “material handling equipment”, what is the first thing that comes to mind? The answer will depend a lot on your specific industry, and the needs you encounter perhaps on a daily basis.

Here are some examples of simple material handling equipment…

Transport devices. This is generally equipment utilized to transport materials from one location to the other either inside the facility or outside the facility. This can include conveyors, industrial trucks, cranes, or forklifts. In addition, you can do this manually by having people physically haul the materials short distances.

Unit load formation devices. Equipment in this category is generally used to restrict items or materials. This equipment helps insure the integrity of the materials in question. If you happen to have self-restraining materials, you will not need additional equipment to insure the integrity of the package or materials.

Positioning devices. This type of equipment is used to hold or restrain materials or items in a specific location and position. Positioning devices are generally used to insure the materials are going to be ready to move when necessary. Usually, this is used to prepare something for moving or additional handling.

Storage devices. Storage devices are used to insure the integrity and safety of items or materials until ready for use. This can mean buffering or supporting the materials, or it can mean stacking on the floor. However, most storage devices of this nature are meant to be stored at a higher level.

There are many types of material handling equipment on the market today. Knowing which type is best suited for your business or company needs will insure you have measures in place that will provide greater safety to not only the items but also the people working with or around those materials or items.
